MARK DE CLIVE-LOWE: LIVE REMIX

CRAFTING the moment in real timE

“…the illest dude I have seen live” – Karizma
"the man behind a million great tunes" - Gilles Peterson
"an underground phenom..." – Okayplayer

A spontaneous journey where the dancefloor converges with jazz improvisation and electronic production.

In MdCL’s one-man Live Remix show, every sound is created, deconstructed, and rebuilt in real time — blending deep groove, harmonic language and analog-digital alchemy into an immersive, unrepeatable performance.

Rooted in broken beat, house music and jazz improvisation, Live Remix is where DJ culture, live musicianship, and studio composition intersect. Keys, drum machines, samplers and synths become instruments in continuous reconstruction.

Nothing is pre-made.
Nothing is fixed.
Everything is in motion.

The Practice

  • Live remixing as performance — not triggering tracks, but rebuilding them from the ground up.

  • Rhythm architecture, harmonic exploration, improvisational instinct and the energy of the room in constant dialogue.

  • A set that evolves each and every time.

  • Where club energy meets exploration.

ABOUT MARK DE CLIVE-LOWE

Six Degrees introduced his fusion of jazz and beats;
Tide’s Arising expanded the palette;

• Heritage explored ancestry;
Past Present opened a meditative synth-driven chapter;
• and his work on the Ghost of Yōtei soundtrack bridges ambient, experimental, and beat-driven forms.

World-renowned for decades, Mark de Clive-Lowe is a New Zealand-born, Tokyo-based pianist, composer, and producer, recognised as a pioneer in nu-jazz, broken beat, and electronic music. In contrast to his previous release on Impressive Collective — the contemplative solo project past present (tone poems across time) this collection brings together MdCL’s extraordinary reinterpretations of other artists’ work.

As he explains, “Remixing has always meant more to me than just rearranging stems - it’s about uncovering a new reality inside the music.”

From the uplifting gospel-house of Close Counters’ I’ll Be There For You, recontextualised for the broken beat dancefloor, to the timelessly angelic tones of We Are KING’s Supernatural, Omar’s This Is Not A Love Song reimagined almost 30 years on, and the politically charged energy of Anthony Joseph’s Maka Dimweh, every remix has been crafted with both the progressive dancefloor and deep listener in mind — all in service of the original artist’s essence.

“I’m grateful to every artist who’s invited me to dive into their work — to deconstruct it and reimagine it with love, curiosity, and respect. This compilation isn’t just a retrospective; it’s a celebration of the remix as an art form.”

Where Past Meets Future

Live Remix is the through-line.

A performance practice forged across dancefloors and concert stages — shaped by a deep immersion in music traditions and club culture, and by technology treated not as a tool, but as an instrument.

From underground clubs to festival stages, Live Remix invites audiences into the feeling of now — where the familiar is reimagined and each moment becomes architecture.
